The Historic Aden Gate Rehabilitation Project

With the aim of preserving the historical sites in Aden, a meeting was held to discuss the project to rehabilitate the historic Aden Gate, where the Minister of State, the Governor of Aden, Mr. Ahmed Hamid Lamlas, the Director of the General Authority of Antiquities and Museums, Mr. Muhammad Al-Saqqaf, the Undersecretary of Aden Governorate, Mr. Salah Al-Aqel, the Director of The Office of Works and Roads, and the Director of Cleaning and Improvement Fund, for a detailed presentation from HS International, conducted by the Group’s CEO, Engineer Hani Al-Sahooly, about the preliminary designs proposed for the rehabilitation of the historic Aden Gate, and the materials planned to be used in the rehabilitation process and the extent of their conformity with the standards for the rehabilitation of archaeological and historical sites.
During the meeting, the governor stressed the need to adhere to the agreed-upon legal foundations and in accordance with the applicable requirements in dealing with historical sites, indicating that the local authority is very keen on this aspect, as much as it is keen on restoring and rehabilitating archaeological sites.
A workshop was held in January of this year with those concerned with antiquities and historical and archaeological sites, including academics, civil society organizations and official parties. The mechanisms and procedures necessary to rehabilitate the archaeological and historical sites were discussed in accordance with the requirements of international organizations concerned with protecting human heritage.

بهدف الحفاظ على المواقع التاريخية في عدن تم عقد اجتماع لمناقشة مشروع اعادة تأهيل بوابة عدن التاريخية, حيث استمع وزير الدولة، محافظ العاصمة عدن الأستاذ أحمد حامد لملس، و مدير الهيئة العامة للآثار والمتاحف السيد محمد السقاف، و وكيل محافظة عدن السيد صلاح العاقل، ومديرا مكتب الأشغال والطرق، وصندوق النظافة والتحسين، لشرح مفصل من شركة إتش اس العالمية متمثلة بالرئيس التنفيذي للمجموعة المهندس هاني السحولي عن التصاميم الأولية المقترحة لإعادة تأهيل بوابة عدن التاريخية، والمواد التي سيتم استخدامها في عملية إعادة التأهيل ومدى تطابقها مع المعايير الخاصة بإعادة تأهيل المواقع الأثرية والتاريخية .
وشدد المحافظ خلال اللقاء، على ضرورة الالتزام بالأسس القانونية المتفق عليها ووفق المتطلبات المعمول بها في التعامل مع المواقع التاريخية، مشيرا إلى أن السلطة المحلية حريصة على هذا الجانب، بقدر حرصها على ترميم المواقع الأثرية وإعادة تأهيلها.
وقد تم إقامة ورشة عمل في شهر يناير من العام الحالي مع المعنيين بالآثار والمواقع التاريخية والأثرية من الأكاديميين ومنظمات المجتمع المدني والجهات المسؤولة، و تم مناقشة الآليات والإجراءات اللازمة لتأهيل المواقع الأثرية والتاريخية وفقا لمتطلبات المنظمات الدولية المعنية بحماية التراث الإنساني.
