HS Group continues its work on Phase III of the Zanzibar Building Code Development Project, owned by BIG-Z, a government entity under the Ministry of Finance and Planning, and funded by the World Bank. Following the completion of Phases I and II, which focused on reviewing the existing building code and assessing the needs of the construction sector, the current phase involves developing Zanzibar’s Building Code, the Small-Scale Building and Housing Guide, and guidelines for the management and protection of heritage buildings and areas. The work aims to align technical and regulatory requirements with local conditions, strengthen building safety, quality, and sustainability standards, and preserve Zanzibar’s architectural and cultural heritage. Phase III is expected to be completed by early 2027.
