Project Description:
Mocha, Arabic Al-Mukhā, also spelled Mokha, or Mukha, town, in southwestern Yemen, on the Red Sea and the Tihāmah coastal plain. Yemen’s most renowned historic port, it lies at the head of a shallow bay between two headlands, with an unprotected anchorage 1.5 miles (2.5 km) offshore.
The master plan is to be instrumental in linking economic planning and development projects to environmental and resource management goals for the Al Mokha directorate and addressing social and ecological issues (such as poverty alleviation, food security, public health, and biodiversity) through rehabilitation and sustainable development of marine and coastal resources with appropriate financing/funding. Mokha has undergone an upsurge in poverty rates, food insecurity, and malnutrition along with an increased unemployment rate, there are many informal settlements and unplanned areas it is possess basic infrastructure and service provision for the residents. However, there are insufficient educational facilities and low coverage of health facilities within the directorate. School enrollment percentages are acceptable regarding the general situation of Al Mokha, high literacy rate, and significant numbers of youths who are not enrolled in any educational facility.
