Project Location
The Al-Dokiard Fish Landing Center is situated in the Al-Mualla district of Aden, Yemen, in close proximity to the fishing port and adjacent to grain silos. Its strategic location serves as a vital hub for local fishermen and the region’s fisheries. The center plays a crucial role in the distribution of substantial fish quantities, contributing significantly to both local and domestic market consumption.
Historical Background
Established in the 1970s, the Al-Dokiard Landing Center operated continuously until its closure in 2015. Historically, the project held significant economic importance for Aden, positioning the city as a key player in the international fish export market. Years of operational inactivity and neglected maintenance led to the center’s deterioration. Work on the project’s revitalization recommenced in 2021.
Project Description
Following comprehensive site visits by a specialized engineering and technical team from HS Group, a detailed survey of the 31,228 square meter site was conducted. This included an assessment of existing buildings, an evaluation of their condition, and discussions with project stakeholders, including fishermen and fish traders, to understand the project’s objectives.
Based on these findings, HS Group developed a revitalization plan. This plan includes the restoration and repurposing of selected buildings and facilities, the demolition of dilapidated and informal structures, and the construction of new buildings to enhance the center’s functionality and commercial operations.
The project’s primary goal is to rehabilitate the Al-Dokiard Center, transforming it into a fully integrated fish landing facility that meets international standards and serves the needs of fishermen and industry professionals. The design will be consistent with the layout and dimensions of other leading fish landing centers globally.
