The assignment took into consideration both surface and ground water resources availability and uses. The groundwater uses information is collected, analyzed and issued through the national water budget which is issued annually by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation. There was no recent study on groundwater was conducted and all information used at present are based on the filed data collected by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation on water uses and the data included in the Jordan Rift Valley Master plan which was developed in 1997.
Groundwater modeling is an effective tool to understand the groundwater flow system and manage the groundwater resources. The specific objectives of the model are to:
- Develop a three-dimensional groundwater flow model for Wadi Araba North and South Basin using MODFLOW.
- Determine the safe yield for Wadi Araba Basins.
- Investigate different scenarios of groundwater management of Wadi Araba including variation of abstraction and recharge rates.
The Client is Jordan Valley Authority-Jordan and the assignment has 30 weeks duration starting from the last week of October 2016.
